Peter Simpson and Roger Young of Critical-Link Ltd were invited to speak at the ASEAN-EU Disaster Risk Management conference in Jakarta, Indonesia in June.
The 3 day programme led by Bruno Maestracci
and Alexander Kesper of the ASEAN EU Emergency Management Project brought together 24 delegates from 8 ASEAN countries who had recently visited the EU.
Peter opened the workshop speaking on the global convergence of national security priorities and a comparative study of current trends in EU and ASEAN DRM policy. Roger lead the second workshop exploring the development of UK emergency management policy and its operational implementation. Both presentations formed that platform for further discussions during the 3 days.
Other speakers included Adelina Kamal from the ASEAN Secretariat (disaster management structures and achievements), Prof Duncan Shaw from Manchester University (mass evacuation), Stavros Petropoulous from the EU External Action Service (crisis communications) and Jordi Carrasco-Munoz from the EU delegation in Myanmar.
Roger and Peter were able to share the extensive knowledge and international experience of Critical-Link Ltd in disaster risk management in the ASEAN region. Our thanks to all the delegates for participating so actively in the discussions and to Bruno and Alex for a well organised and very productive EU-ASEAN workshop.
